Tennis Hub - link to other Shropshire clubs
We are a family-friendly club in the north Shropshire village of Baschurch, around 8 miles north west of Shrewsbury, and currently have approximately 130 members. We are open to players of all ages and abilities, and welcome enquiries from prospective new members.
Based at Church Lane in Baschurch, we have two floodlit hard-surfaced courts, plus a clubhouse. The surrounding area has been designed to facilitate wheelchair access. For the competitive player, we enter Men's and Ladies' teams in the Shropshire Inter-Club Doubles Summer League, and also have three mixed teams that take part in the Winter league. There is no obligation however to play matches, and many members are happy to play their tennis at a social level with friends and family.
We are fortunate to benefit from the services of a club coach (Sarah Hardie assisted by Ollie Beaman and Camilla Loney), and offer tennis lessons to those aged 3 and over. For the children, our aim is to provide a fun and safe environment in which they can learn skills and tactics and develop a real love of the game before eventually progressing to tennis "proper".
In addition to the playing side, members can apply for Wimbledon tickets through the club, and we also run occasional social events that are always well supported.
Baschurch was among the first clubs in Shropshire to obtain the LTA Clubmark registration - for details please click on the Clubmark logo above.
Rt - Brendan, our former chairman, is presented with the Clubmark certificate by Pete Brown of the LTA in Oct 2010
CLUB OPEN DAY - See under Coaching & Events
Every year our club is eligible for a number of Wimbledon Tickets, and many of our members have been lucky enough to get tickets though our annual club ballot. The number of tickets we are allocated is governed by how many of our members have registered for British Tennis Membership (BTM). If you are already BTM members you should have received an email late in November asking you to 'Opt In'. Please can you make sure you have done this. If you have not received an email, please go to http://www.lta.org.uk/ and follow the link to Opt In.
Even if you are not interested in tickets for yourself, please register as this helps our club get the maximum number of tickets allowed. Any queries, please speak to Bev who will update us with details of the Wimbledon Ballot when these become available (expected Spring 2015).
Current subscriptions run until the end of March 2015. As an incentive to renew (or join) promptly, membership fees will be held at 2014-15 levels for those who renew / join before the end of April. These are as follows: Family - £150, Adult - £80, Junior (under 18 or in full time education) - £45. There will be an additional family fee of £10, or £5 for individual adults / juniors who delay payment. Court padlocks will be changed at the start of May, and one key will be supplied with each renewal (£4 deposit required). Thanks as ever to Sheila for keeping this running so smoothly.
